Question: What to do If You Hit a Strength Plateau?

Updated 2 years ago by Darren Crawford

Answer: There are a couple very effective things you can do if you run into a strength plateau.
My favorite and most effective way is through exercise rotation.
Exercise rotation is simply switching the exercise for another, that still works the same muscle groups.
Think of moving from incline barbell bench press to incline dumbbell press.
When another plateau sets in, switch back to the original exercise. You'll then set the stage for new strength gains.
You could also drop the workload by about 10% and work in the higher rep ranges for a few weeks. When you increase the weight again, it will feel lighter and you'll be able to push past that sticking point you once had.
